PROMOTED !! NOW FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP

Sorry I have no time for a full report of today’s game as I am off on holiday but suffice to say

“WE ARE PROMOTED TO DIVISION ONE”

It’s been two weeks since the reversal at Nantyfyllon and there may have been some “squeaky bums” regarding today’s game but they were quickly blown away as within five minutes of the start Birchgrove were well on their way to a bonus point 12 -34 victory at Seven Sisters.

After a little bit of forward arm wrestling Rob Scrine was able to make ground and Matthew Edwards was on hand to set Josh Key up for his  8th  touchdown of the season 0 - 5. Seven tried to hit back  and went close with a penalty attempt before a glorious break from Adam  Rowlands  saw him cover about 65 yards of the pitch to run in the second try converted by Matthew Edwards 0 – 12.

The lead was extended quickly with a Matthew Edwards penalty 0-15 before the mercurial running of Rowlands again split the Seven defence for his second try of the day , this time only about 30 yards, Edwards again on target 0- 22 half time .

Seven kicked off the second half with more vigour but the visiting defence was up to the job and the assault was soon suppressed and Birch were again on the front foot and a combination of Matthew Edwards and Nathaniel  Llewellyn almost got the bonus point try before the referee stepped in . The prize was not long coming though as Scrine, taking advantage of a solid forward platform fed to Percival who picked out Matthew Edwards who was over at pace for the bonus point and barring accidents the PROMOTION Score. Yes he kicked it as well 0 -29.

Birch continued in the same vein, notwithstanding the occasional counter attack from the home side but when Jamie Sturgess put that man Edwards in to space and he danced over for try number five  (his 9th of the season)the game was won and the first hurdle of Promotion to Division 1 was done.

Seven deservedly got some consolation for their efforts with two tries and a conversion but the day belonged to the visitors who now need to beat Taibach to put the icing on the cake and go up to the heady heights of Division One as Champions.

Well Done lads and good luck against Ystalyfera on Wednesday , no report sorry I will be away and you may need to wait for Jeff’s photos too.
