BIRCH BEATEN BY BYNEA IN SEMI FINAL

A well drilled and organised Bynea got the better of Birchgrove at Dunvant on Wednesday night 22.10 and deservedly progress to the West Wales competition final.

Birchgrove opened the scoring with a Nick Fisher penalty and even though they were missing a few regular forwards looked as if they would be a match for the opposition who currently sit top of Division 3 West B. It soon became evident though that this was not to be Birchgrove's night as their high tempo passing game was outdone partly by  the frustration of a final pass going astray in attacking positions but also by the methodical almost metronomic game plan of the opposition.

Once the Bynea eight had realised that parity and occasionally total forward domination was in their grasp they stuck manfully to their ten man game turning forward posession in to territorial gain and then consistently testing the Birchgrove defensive line. The result was a game where although the creativity was to come from Birchgrove the rigidity of the opposition was to prove the victor on the night.

Birchgrove went in to the half time having conceded 17 points, a pressure converted try, a lucky converted try after a defensive kick was charged down over the line and a penalty to the solitary penalty from Nick Fisher and there was an ominous feel about the game.

Birchgrove though were not finished and as we have seen in the past they are not the type of team to lie down and die. A forward resurgence brought some hope only for the renewed effort to be outdone with yet another training field try from Bynea to take the game really out of reach 3 - 22.

Still the Robins bounced back and a try from Jack Perkins was to make the score a more respectable 10 -22 after a solid build up not necessarilly in the Ireland mould for phase rugby but excellent ball management nevertheless.

The challenge was too much though and the game was to fizzle out with Bynea the deserved victors on the night.
