END OF SEASON BLUES AS GLYNNEATH ROMP HOME

With a number of players missing through injury, illness and holiday commitments today was always going to be a difficult one. And so it turned out with a somewhat inauspicious end to the Season with Championship chasing Glynneath fueled by determination and a secret stash of energy , romped home in an eleven try to two , 69-14 victory.

No criticism of the courage or endeavour of those who carried the Birchgrove colours today but the scoreline speaks for itself. The important thing is that we have completed our Season, we have retained our Division 1 status and along the way interspersed with some desperate moments the team has provided some flashes of quality, entertainment, skill and doggedness which if we are able to carry in to next year will ensure that once again we can retain our position in the higher echelons of WRU Community Rugby

We won six games we lost fourteen but that doesn’t tell the full story for those who travelled to Builth and witnessed the incredulity of the home supporters who could not fathom why we were dragging along at the foot of the table as we pushed them all the way.  A close encounter against local rivals Skewen at the beginning of the season turned in to a rout when they visited us a couple of weeks ago. Determined performances at Ystrad, a win in the return fixture against Builth and 2 bonus points in a pulsating game at Brynamman saw us home. Like a plot in a blockbuster movie  we live to fight another day.

So,many thanks to all concerned as the final curtain falls on this rugby season—a drama filled with scrums, tackles, and more plot twists than a soap opera. The Players, the Coaching staff ably led by R J Di’uilio, who is now retiring to the sidelines and his role with the Junior Section and Colin Kirkhouse and all the backroom staff who make our Saturday entertainment a reality.

Thanks from me to all who read my Saturday evening ramblings and eagerly await the exceptional professional quality of photographer Jeff Miles, our trusty photographer, capturing moments like a paparazzi at a royal wedding and bringing them to mud splattered life

I am reliably informed that there will be a presentation evening arranged so watch this space, if I don’t see you at the Oscars  have a good Summer and we will meet again next Season.

Man of the Match : Greeno, say no more !! close seconds Josh Jarrett and Chris Gorvett
