LEIGH D'IUILIO TAKES PLAYER OF THE YEAR TROPHY.

A well attended and successful Presentation Night took place at the Club last night to celebrate the Team’s successful season and Promotion to Division 2.

Chairman Jeff Hills followed by Club Secretary Carl Woodward opened proceedings with eloquent notes of Gratitude to everyone involved in the success of the Season with special mention of course to the Players, Coaches and Rugby Management Team but also for those not necessarily seen in the front line such as Sponsors, Patrons, Supporters  and the hard working Bar Staff. All important Cogs in the wheel of a Successful Season.

The ever Inimitable Master of Ceremonies Colin Kirkhouse then took control to lead the gathering through the following awards for the Evening :-

I was particularly pleased and grateful to be awarded the Clubman of the Year award myself for primarily keeping people abreast of the News and Match results through the medium of the Web Site. I would also like to thank the Intrepid Photographer Jeff Miles for his contribution to the articles and also the behind the scene work of Kris Williams whose Match Day Statistics are so meticulously compiled and presented to the Players and Coaches each week.

A further somewhat emotive tribute and award was then made by Captain Adam Percival and Vice Captain Josh Key to Head Coach Darren Poland who had already made it known to the Club that he was retiring from Rugby and consequently stepping down from his Role.

Darren responding in typical rousing fashion to thank the Club and Officials and giving what amounted to a massive vote of confidence, tinged with the renowned Poland streak of honesty,  in the Players’ ability to succeed in the heady heights of Division 2 next year . Darren was then afforded a well deserved standing ovation which perfectly summed up the respect and admiration that everyone in the Club has for him as a person and Coach and we wish him well in his new found tranquillity.

So a thoroughly enjoyable night was had by all, off for a rest now before the New Season sneaks up on us and I understand the new Coaching Team will be announced shortly so watch this Space.
